Last week, I made a trip to the Red Dot Design museum in Singapore. It is a lovely space housed in a bright red building. The private museum showcases the winning entries from the Red Dot Design Awards. This includes product, conceptual and communication designers from around the world.
Singapore is the only country outside Germany where there is a museum.
It was interesting to see the products on display. From products that have already come to market to ones that are still prototypes, the collection is unique. Besides the entire range of Apple products, here are some other cool ones that have found space in the gallery.
The Genius Pack (US based) carry-on suitcase has a cleverly devised organizing system, which makes travel super practical.
Taiwan based company Moolux has won awards for its LED umbrella that has an LED light that users can switch on when walking in the rain at night.
I would love to try some of the products made for kids. The Stokke Flexi bath Newborn Support is one of them. The product comes with an ergonomical seat shell, which makes bathing a baby easier. Other products from the Stokke family which have won awards for good design include Stokke Steps and Stokke Xplory.
The Rainshower Flower designed by German company Grohe seemed interesting. The playful design and bump protection aims to make bathtime fun for young critters.
I liked the futuristic design of the Qlocktwo Wall and Table Clock.
Toothbrushes have also won awards. Check out the Clean Smile toothbrush by Orkla Home & Personal Care.
Some conceptual designs that have not yet come to market include Shenzen Hanma Creative Company’s child bicycle that is self-illuminating, and apt for kids aged 3-6. The bicycle moves without chains and uses a belt drive instead, thus making the cycling process quieter. It also reduces possibility of injury.
The world is changing at a fast pace.
