Charcoal yogurt? Sounded interesting. I stopped by Kokopanda last week to taste the signature Koko Twisto – a blend of black yogurt and white ice cream.
The black fro-yo doesn’t taste a whole lot different from a regular fro-yo, but the pleasant tartness combines well with the sweet taste of ice cream. I like how the cup is dressed up with dried tangerine, apple and pear toppings (a welcome change from the overly sweet dried fruits of Thailand). I would avoid the biscuit topping that is drizzled on top, as it somewhat overpowers the better flavors of the dessert.

Kokopanda’s USP is healthy dessert in a cup. Apparently, the black yogurt is made from coconut husk that contains activated edible charcoal. Charcoal is a great ingredient for detox and is used in several home remedies in Korea. The Koko White Cremo is soft-serve ice cream made from premium Korean milk.
The other half of the menu is drinks like iced teas, bubble teas, fruit ciders and fruit enzyme drinks. I try the Jeju Tangerine enzyme-based drink. It is a tad sweet, but I love the flavor of tangerine and the tidbits of chia that come along with it. Made with preserved fruit, the drinks are preservative free. Katie tells me enzyme drinks are popular home remedies in Korea. This time around, I didn’t try the bubble tea lattes, but apparently they are popular with the locals.

Like most things here in Singapore, I assumed Kokopanda was a brand that came here from overseas. Interestingly, Kokopanda is a homegrown brand developed by Katie Kang (of Korean origin) together with her business partner. Prior to this, Katie has dabbled her hands in the banking and interior design industry. This is something completely new on her plate. We wish her luck with her sweet venture.
